How to colour fondant icing
Step one
Put the first amount of colour onto the fondant(sugarpaste) . The amount you put in depends on the colour you want I usually put in1 teaspoon at a time for dark colours and 1/4 teaspoon at a time for pale colours, they need to be added slowly so they blend into the icing well.
Note: The best colours to use for this are the Chefmaster gel colour or Sugarflair gel colour.
Step two
Spray bench with cooking spray or cornflour (I like to use Sunfield canola spray with no added water. Which is readily available at the supermarket)
Step three
Knead colour into fondant like picture shown below. (Food colours can slightly stain hands to avoid this wear disposable gloves)
If you are adding a lot of colour the fondant may get to soft so add cornflour into the icing to stop stickiness
STEP FOUR
After colour is completely blended wrap fondant in gladwrap to avoid going hard and keep in a cool place out of the sun till you are ready to use.
Note:Always keep fondant(sugarpaste) covered when you are not using as it hardens very quickly.
